The trail has been vastly improved since a few years ago, and it had held up much better than anticipated to the recent deluge.
So, we would like to re-invite you to join us on this great hike!

Join hike leaders, Peter and Sigrid (and their assistant, Thyra) for an invigorating trek up Fremont's Mission Peak. The hike is fairly short, at 6 miles round trip, but the elevation gain is 2000 ft from the trail head. The view over the south bay from the top certainly justifies the hike up!! This is a steep, but not long hike, so if you are reasonably fit, you can do it. The first part of the loop trail will be a unimproved trail, the hike down will be a very improved (gravel, road width, and level) trail. Estimated time: 4-5 hours with lunch.

KIDS: The terrain is not difficult (besides being steep) so feel free to come along with the kids! We made a loop trail with a baby jogger, but next week we plan to bring the backpack instead, mainly to focus more on the view, and less on the cow patties. We saw a couple with a Baby Bjorn'ed child and the little one seemed quite content. If you have twins, and need a break on the way up, there should be enough adults to take a turn carrying!

DOGS: Your 4-legged friends are welcome on this hike as long as they are on a leash (maximum 3 per family, it seems).

Please meet us at the trail head and parking lot of Mission Peak Regional Preserve at the end of Stanford Ave. in Fremont at 10AM. If you are running a little late and you want us to wait for you, let us know by calling either Peter at 408-802-3204 or Sigrid at 707-303-6333.

Heavy rain on the day of the event cancels. A little Scandinavian misty rain doesn't count.

This event is open to both YSC members and non-members.

What to Bring: Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way. What to wear: it is a very exposed trail, layering is highly recommended, and do not forget the windbreaker. Be ready for sunshine (sunscreen) and windy conditions at the top (did we mention the windbreaker ?!). Hiking boots are also recommended as some of the trail could be slightly muddy if it has rained recently, and there is the odd cow patty.

Directions: Directions: Meet at the trail head and parking lot of Mission Peak Regional Preserve at the end of Stanford Ave. in Fremont at 10AM. Parking lot is usually full, so park on surrounding residential streets. See map
