Join hike leaders, Peter and Sigrid (and their assistant, Thyra) for an adventurous hike at El Corte Madera Open Space in the mountains of mid-Peninsula. The hike is an 8.5 mile loop hike through second growth redwood forest, where we will get to an old growth redwood, historical plane wreck, sandstone formation and a view over the Pacific Ocean. The hike has about 500 foot elevation gain, but no steep grades.
KIDS: The terrain is not difficult so feel free to come along with the kids! A jogger is OK as most of the trails are fireroad width and not steep.
Please meet us at the trail head and parking lot of El Corte Madera Open Space at 10AM. BE SURE to find the right parking area since this park has 2 and we're meeting at the southern one (sorry has no name other than CM02 on the map). WE'RE NOT MEETING AT SKEGGS POINT, but the other one 1/2 mile south of it. Unfortunately cellphone reception in this area is really poor, so you might not be able to get a hold of us if you are late, but you can try either Peter at 408-802-3204 or Sigrid at 707-303-6333.
Heavy rain on the day of the event cancels. A little Scandinavian misty rain doesn't count. This event is open to both YSC members and
non-members. Reservations: Reservations are not required for this event. What to Bring:
Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch to enjoy along the way. What to wear: mostly shaded hike, it can be both foggy and sunny, so make sure to be ready for both, ie. layers and sunscreen. Directions:
We meet at the second parking lot coming from the north (CM02 on the map). It's the trailhead and parking lot 1/2 mile AFTER Skeggs Point on Skyline Blvd.
There is unfortunately no public transport in this area, but email us at hiking@thorsager.net and we'll try to help coordinate a ride. See map |
