Mar 2 update: Half Dome Permits - Yosemite is requiring permits this year to prevent overcrowding on the |
Annual Memorial Day Yosemite Trip May 28-31, 2010 Yosemite National Park Half Dome's impressive facade
Believe it or not, Memorial Day is just around the corner, and that can only mean one thing: YOSEMITE! Late spring is the best time of the year to visit one of America's most amazing natural wonders. Yosemite is a million year-old valley made up of sheer granite cliffs, deeply carved by glaciers during the last ice ages. It's an El Dorado of crystal-clear streams, pine forests, bald mountain peaks, spectacular waterfalls, flower-strewn meadows, and Giant Sequoia trees. Join YSC for our ever-popular Yosemite weekend! Whether you want to spend time socializing with a group, explore on your own, or just relax, there’s no better place to do it than beneath the impressive façade of Half Dome. As usual, we will have fun and adventurous activities planned throughout the weekend. Friday night is when most people arrive at Curry Village. Saturday is the traditional hiking day. This year will be a little different because of the Half Dome permit requirement but don’t fret if you didn’t get a permit, there will be several fantastic hiking options. After the Saturday hikes, we will hold our usual Happy Hour in Curry Village. This is a great time to swap stories and get ideas for what to do on Sunday. On Sunday evening, we gather for a festive BBQ by the Swinging Bridge over the Merced River. This is an amazing venue with good food and drinks, a great way to close out the trip.
ACCOMMODATIONS
YSC has been allotted 30 canvas tent cabins in Curry Village, which is centrally located in Yosemite Valley near the start of the Half Dome trail. The tent cabins have raised wooden floors, lamps, and bedding. Some tents have one double and three single beds, while other have one double and one single.
RESERVATIONS (
COST
Unfortunately, prices at Yosemite have risen steeply over the last few years. We try very hard to keep it affordable for everyone so the budget is very tight! That said, we still think it’s a great value. Payment includes three nights’ lodging (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), Saturday’s Happy Hour, and Sunday’s BBQ. Rates are per person:
2 people per tent cabin: $195
3 people per tent cabin: $150
4 or 5 people per tent cabin: $125 (for 5 per tent cabin two people need to agree to share the double bed.)
After payment has been received, you'll receive a confirmation email with your cabin assignment and a recommended packing list. If you have any questions, you can contact the Organizer via email at Yosemite2010@ysc.org. If you sent in a check but have not received a confirmation email by May 1st, please let me know right away.
CARPOOLS
If you are willing to offer a seat in your car, please indicate that when you send in your payment. Also, please state when, and from where, you are departing. If you need a ride to and from Yosemite, please email and we'll try to find you a carpool match. This event is open to YSC members and their
guests only. Reservations: Reservations are required for this event. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Reservations are made on a first-come first-serve basis. Your reservation is not secured until we have received your payment. The trip usually sells out quite early so please get your checks in on time to avoid disappointment. Lodging in Yosemite is fully booked this weekend so we have to give priority to members. Therefore, please limit yourself to one guest per member. If you are coming alone or with a friend, you can save money by sharing your cabin with someone else. We will coordinate the tent-sharing. All you have to do is answer a few quick questions about your preferences and then show up and meet your new best friends! Send your check (payable to YSC), full names of the members and guests in your party, your email address(es), street address and phone number(s) to:

CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations rarely occur but when they do, please understand that they are a huge problem for the Club (and the organizer). We understand that true emergencies occasionally occur and we try to be as fair as possible but we cannot guarantee that we can refund your money. If we are able to fill your spot, we will try our best to give you a refund but after a certain point, we are simply not able to do that. Please make sure your plans are firm prior to signing up. We appreciate your understanding. Anyway, there is no better place to be on Memorial weekend! What to Bring:
After payment has been received, you'll receive a confirmation email with your cabin assignment and a recommended packing list. Questions? Contact Debra Minnigerode by email. |
